Community Service

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Founder Mary Ellen Sheets has spent her entire life volunteering. She has given both monetary donations and her own time to help to better other people’s lives. So when she started TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, it made sense to include community service in the foundation of the business.

In her first year, Sheets profited only $1,000. And even though she could have used the money, she decided to give $100 donations away to 10 different local charities.

She has continued donating to the same 10 charities every year she’s been in business. Sheets is a longtime supporter of many organizations including Habitat for Humanity, United Way of America and the YMCA. She also serves on several local boards such as the Michigan Freedom Foundation, Boy Scouts of America and Sparrow Hospital.

Her strong commitment to helping the community is shared by her children. The family’s dedication has been an inspiration to everyone in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® system. In fact, ten cents of every move is donated to the American Cancer Society.

Franchisees from across the country dedicate both time and money to their area charities – though it’s not a requirement. This is clearly illustrated in the number of discounted moves donated by franchises; hours and truck time donated to coat and toy drives during the holidays; and the donations of time, resources, and money to victims of natural disasters.

Because community involvement is such a core component of the company’s culture, one of the most coveted awards in the system is the Humanitarian Award. This award is presented annually to a franchise in recognition of actions of a purely philanthropic nature.
