(Lansing, Mich.) – Gov. Jennifer Granholm recently signed legislation that will simplify the moving process for customers in Michigan.

And TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® played a key role in making sure the bill was ratified.

Senate Bill 266 (now Public Act 33 of 2007) carries “customer friendly” provisions, including:

  • Creating a “local move zone” that is defined as 40 miles, point-to-point. This “local move zone” replaces a complex system that was difficult for customers and moving companies to understand.  The new system will allow for simplified pricing and better customer service.  Moves outside of the 40 mile zone will be governed by the tariff that is regulated by the Michigan Public Service Commission.
  • Allowing moving companies to provide free or discounted charity moves to non-profit organizations, and houses of worship.
  • Allowing moving companies to provide discounts for senior citizens
  • Requiring all moving companies to obtain an authority from the State of Michigan to operate, and simplifies the authority-granting process

“Customer service is our No. 1 focus at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®,” said Jon Sorber, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®/INTERNATIONAL, Inc. Executive Vice President and franchisee of the Lansing and both Grand Rapids offices. “This legislation allows us the opportunity to better serve our customers. The household goods moving regulations were originally written in the 1930s, and needed to be updated. We are pleased the legislature and Gov. Granholm were supportive of these changes. We are also very thankful to Senator Valde Garcia for sponsoring this bill.  We could not have done it without him.”

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® includes moving, packing, unpacking for homes and businesses. Locations also sell boxes and packing supplies. For more information, go to www.twomen.com.
